Shining Lights 2015 (Complete)

Artist statement

The next chapter of their love begins when the bride and groom enter the wedding vehicle… It’s the moment they realise the commitment they have made to love, honour & cherish one another is about to become alive.
My collection dubbed La fusion des âmes, was inspired by wedding vehicles used to chaperone the bridal couples to and from the wedding venue. The embellishments used to adorn the vehicle, such as the knot, are a symbol of the bridal couples enduring love and commitment to one another. The knot represents the culmination of two individuals bonded together by infinite love. The collection is a symbol of eternal love, a declaration of their honour to each other, and a constant reminder of the promise made. My designs express the power of synergy that a couple creates where two individuals become stronger when they are bound together in love.
Below are renderings created towards my 2015 Shining lights collection

Earrings
The row of diamonds and the stem of the earring are one piece whilst the longer ‘j shaped’ piece is removable and fits behind the ear. Creating the illusion of it tapering  through the wearer’s ear.

Shining lights (design curveball)

After showing Chris my designs, he informed us that the brief  that was sent to us was compiled for the second years and we did not necessarily have to use knots. He also felt that we should try and design our pieces to have some sort of relation to our B-tech titles. this put me in  a corner as I had no idea at that very moment as to how I am able to relate a car to a promise. After a lengthy discussion with my b-tech peers, Sam suggested using weddings cars as my inspiration and working my way forward, with nothing to lose I set of working with that concept in mind.

Shining lights (ribbon hood)

After looking at all the different wedding cars found on Pinterest, I came across this image of a vintage car, however it wasn't the car itself that I found interesting but the ribbon tied on the hood of the car.

this gave me the idea of creating something that comes together and becomes one. with this in mind I set off creating my collection whilst still retaining the initial design of the knot.

Shining lights (design idea)

Having received the 2015 Shining Lights  brief a few days ago I decided to start working on my designs towards this competition. on the brief it stated that 'the reference focus for this project will begin with knots. as knots bind, safeguard, support, suspend, secure and rescue... '

I stumbled upon this design whilst browsing on Pinterest, I found this design appealing as it gives the illusion that if one had to pull the top of shape it would bunch together and create a knot. With this in mind I decided to create my collection based around this 'tangled shape'.

Solidscape Quote

So whilst wanting to purchase a 3D printer I thought it would be a good idea to look at all the printers and their prices and then weigh up my options. I received a quote for 2 printers from Solidscape. The Solidscape 3Z Studion and the Solidscape Pro (the one that I used whilst at Design@50)

I was rather taken a back when informed that all these prices are in dollars and they didn't include vacuums which are beneficial for the printers to work.
